A massive congratulation to the new committee who will be running BOOSA for its 37th Year !
President: Amreen Hussain (Centre) Vice President: Haroon Tariq (first from right) Secretary: Mahria Akram (Second from right) Treasurer: Sarah Manton (first from left) Social Secretary: David Wong (second from left) Last wednesday, we had the chance to break the ice by having as many fresher BOOSA members going to bowling along with the committee and volunteers from second and third years. This was a great oppurtunity for the first year to not only get to know more about BOOSA but it also allowed the older years to know more abut the first years.
It was a great day overall and we later all headed back to the student union for a very informative talk from Specsavers. This Wednesday, BOOSA introduced themselves at the Fresher's Fayre event with its very own stall. The main purpose of this day was to introduce the society to the new optometry fresher's and draw as many optometry students to join BOOSA. This was achieved by telling them about the great benefits that come with the membership which include talks and followed by a social every week, discounts for hoodies and eyeball tickets, discounted loyalty cards, icebreaker and the chance to meet students from older years.
Overall this day turned out to be a very big success as we had many memberships and had to chance to introduce ourselves for the first time as the new committee. The next BOOSA committee has finally been announced!
President: Anaa Waheed (Centre) Vice President: Haroon Tariq (1st from Left) Secretary: Chrishthuya kangatharan (2nd from left) Treasurer: Radhika Chaudhari (2nd from right) Social Secretary: Tulsi Patel (1st from right) We wish them luck in taking BOOSA forward into its 36th year! Today, Tim Hunter from NHS Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust came in to talk to BOOSA members about optometry in an hospital environment, launching this year's round of BOOSA Talks. With Leeds teaching hospital being one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in Europe, Tim gave a fantastic insight into life as pre-reg at Leeds Hospital and the many career paths available to you in the hospital profession. After months of head scratching and searching, we have finally been able to make three simulators available as part of The BOOSA Resource Bank which was launched earlier in 2014. Although in its early stages, the simulators are hoped to become another useful resource which members are able to take advantage of.
CooperVision is one of the biggest contact lens manufacturers in the UK. Their products can be found in practices across the UK and around the world. BOOSA organised a trip on Tuesday 20th September 2014, to visit the manufacturing facilities CooperVision holds in Southampton. The trip included a tour around the factory as well as insight into the production and development of the contact lenses in the market. With 29 students taking the long journey down south, the trip was well received by all who attended. A big thank you must go to Gareth Davey for organising the trip and our hosts at CooperVision! The year has gone quite quickly and BOOSA, for this year, has come to an end. The Final Social was the BOOSA Quiz! With all sections of the department in attendance, the quiz was a massive success! Following the quiz it was time for ice cream. The evening was enjoyed by all who attended. It was a social to end all socials |
